Precision Eye Care Introduces OptomapUnless you or a family member have had a problem with your eyes, you probably think of your eye exam as a way of determining your glasses prescription, checking for glaucoma and cataracts, and not much more. However, your eye doctor also looks at the back of your eyes to determine that the retina is healthy and free from disease. This is extremely important, particularly in patients with diabetes, high blood pressure, high myopia (nearsightedness), and other conditions that can cause changes that can be seen in the retina. Until now, the only way for the doctor to see a wide view of the retina has been through a dilated pupil. The doctor uses drops to make your pupil large, enabling an unencumbered view of the back of they eyes. The drops cause your vision to be blurry for several hours. Precision Eye Care has introduced a new technology - the Optomap Retinal Exam. The Optomap uses two beams of light to image the majority of the retina - without dilating the pupil. Optomap retinal images are stored electronically. You can view your retinal images with your doctor at the time of your exam, and the doctors at Precision Eye Care can obtain a consult with another physician simply by e-mailing the images. Any changes that are noted during future exams can be compared to the stored images. At Precision Eye Care, we have found that this technology enables more people to have comprehensive eye exams without the discomfort or inconvenience of being dilated. It is truly state of the art. |
